What is Succession Planning?

Succession Planning is an ongoing, dynamic process that helps an organization to align its strategy, business goals and talent needs.  It also ensures that an organization can keep pace with changes to the business, industry and overall marketplace.  A sound succession planning process requires that an organization be able to answer the following questions:

§  What strategic changes do we anticipate over the next three years in terms of the breadth, scope and location of our operations, markets, products and services?

§  How will the demographic and geographic profiles of our workforce change over the next few years?

§  What capabilities will future leaders need, and what skills/capabilities does our workforce possess?

§  How can we most effectively structure and deploy our workforce to optimize our return on investment and realize the full range of competencies we will need to execute our business strategy?
